The Ishtar Gate, main gate of Babylon built during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II (605-562 BCE). Enamelled tiles, mythical animals, lions, and gods embellish the gate which was dedicated to goddess Ishtar of Babylon, Mesopotamia (Iraq). now in Berlin

it’s in berlin….one of the most iraqi artifacts from babylon, and it’s in berlin. I rest of case.

So? Many things are not where they first were, and for that it might’ve been a good thing since in Berlin they take the best care of the artifacts… For instance in Egypt, the Egyptians were selling any mummies they found to any archaeologist passing by.
When speaking about Babylon, thank god many of the items aren’t in Iraq anymore, remember how the USA soldiers went on with the destruction of the cultural herritage?? I’m certain that the Ishtar gate would’ve been severely damaged at some point. Not only that, the  US-led invasion theives looted and destroyed many artifacts as well… Luckily I believe a Norwegian scientist got a hold of over 6000 stolen artifacts and put them in protected display.

I, for on, am glad that many of the artifacts are safe in Berlin. I haven’t been there yet myself and I do believe the museum is going through 1-2 years of renewal. I do doubt tho’ the artifacts will ever get back to their place, from wherever they are.
